“My name is Lamia. I’m 28 years old. I live in Al-Saear village in As Selw district, Taiz Governorate in southwestern Yemen. My village suffers from a lack of access to safe health services. I got married in 2016. After I had my first child, I had seven miscarriages. A while later, I became pregnant with my second child, Karam, and I also had to travel five hours to Al-Hawban area, although I didn’t want to go there because of my first experience with the first child. We didn’t receive full care, and I didn’t feel safe for myself and my child,” says Lamia. With funding from Global Affairs of Canada (GAC), CARE provides vouchers to cover the cost of reproductive health (RH) services and transport expenses for 200 pregnant women from far-off areas which had limited or no health facilities around them. The assistance is aimed to facilitate timely access to quality life-saving services such as emergency obstetric and newborn care.
