The Chimwemwe Group have received micro loans from The Microloan Foundation (MLF) through CARE International’s Lendwithcare.org programme. The businesses in the group include: sale of second hand clothes, fritters, groceries, maize flour, restaurant and tomatoes and other vegetables. They told us that the businesses are doing well and their incomes slowly increasing. They used 100% of the money loan to invest in the business. They have been able make all repayments and they are also saving. They said that they are making good profits and most have been able to acquire household items including solar panels to light at night and also household furniture. They all have sent their children to school. They plan to continue increasing their businesses and some plan to buy a house. Teleza Kamwendo (pnk top) is doing well. She continues selling second hand clothes but also runs a small grocery shop. Her business allows her to support herself as she is divorced. She has also been able to support grandchildren she looks after and send them to school. Her plans are to continue working to save more money and invest in business.
