Nineteen-year-old Mariangles spent the night on the border of Colombia and Ecuador with her one year-old son Aaron. They are awaiting a bus to take them across Ecuador later today. She left Venezuela a week ago and has gone mostly by bus across Colombia on her way to the border of Ecuador and Peru. “My boyfriend left (Venezuela) three months ago and got a job in Huaquillas. He has an apartment there now and has sent for us.” Photographed on April 18, 2019.
The Venezuelan Crisis is a slow moving complex reality. It’s made up of hundreds of thousands of small family decisions. ‘How do I feed my children? Where do I go? How will we survive? Who can help us?’
