People collect monthly rations in the drought affected in the East of Ethiopia at a CARE distribution centre in Oromiya, East Haraghe on April 19, 2016
Background: CARE’s five year project (2012 – 2016) Women’s Empowerment: Improving Resilience, Income and Food Security (WERISE), focussed on improving household food security and resilience by empowering women, particularly through increased agricultural productivity. Funded by the Australia Africa Community Engagement Scheme (AACES) and implemented in Tanzania, Ethiopia and Malawi, WERISE was designed to improve the quality of life for chronically food insecure rural women (CFIRW).
