Hadjo Djibo (56) is one of the most politically active women in Niger. After being trained in children’s and women’s rights from CARE, she managed to mobilise all the women in the village and was elected to Council. Today she fights for all girls in Niger to go to school and for all women to be their own boss.
“It is very unusual to meet a woman in CAREs VSLA group who is not welcoming. These women helped me a lot and I can’t just see their rights not be respected.
Everything happened thanks to CARE. Because I learnt to read and write, I wanted to become a politician. Women from the VSLA group were in front and the rest of the women got behind them. I feel so proud and strong. This is something that can happen to anyone if they put their mind to it and if they get the chance to meet Mata Masu Dubara and learn the same as me.”
