Background:CARE Haiti support to 253 households (1,518 person) last Thursday and Friday in three communes in Grand Anse. They all received , food vouchers, hygiene and sanitation kits and hand washing stations, our target is to reach 400 households in total, the distribution will continue on Monday through Tuesday. Haiti declared its first cases of COVID-19 on March 19. Haiti’s borders are closed with a ban on international travel and a curfew is in place from 8pm – 5am. Schools and universities are currently closed. The CARE Haiti office conducted a rapid assessment of the impact of a potential risk of COVID-19 outbreak in country on project implementation. The assessment found that 70% of project activities would be impacted in a case of an outbreak. CARE is planning to response to this latest crisis in Haiti (initially with funding secured from within the CARE membership – US$ 90,000 ) to support people a focus on community awareness raising in small groups, members of local structures, VSLA member, School Head Teachers and School Committees members to avoid convening crowds. The office will also use radios and mobile phone campaigns. The office will cover water, sanitation and hygiene and food security area in the next couple of weeks. This will include unconditional cash transfers (via electronic money transfer) to 400 poor households so they can constitute a food provision to sustain them in the case of a total confinement. Priority will be given to household headed by women in communities where CARE has active programming. This unconditional cash transfer will build onto ongoing emergency food assistance activities. CARE will provide hygiene kits for COVID-19 to 400 households comprised of 2x 20L jerry cans; 4.5kg washing soap; 3.6kg of clothes washing detergent; and 3*3 packs of female sanitary items per kit; and IEC flyers (on best WASH practices, particularly handwashing with soap and clean water). CARE intends to reach out at least 12,000 people with proposed combined activities. More specifically, the initiative will distribute unconditional cash transfer and a COVID-19 hygiene kit voucher to 400 households (with 6 persons each), benefiting directly 2,400 people, of which 60% are women. CARE Haiti has a 173 people workforce (including 2 International staff), 60% of whom are based in the field – 4 sub-offices Photos taken during the distribution of Hygiene Kit and money to the beneficiaries of the municipalities of Jérémie, Abricot, Bonbon and Dame-Marie on April 9-10 and 13, 2020 in response to COVID-19
