The life of Nada and her family were turned upside down when the fighting destroyed their home near their village in Hays district, one of the districts of Al-Hudaydah city. While escaping, a mine exploded, killing her husband and leaving her with all burdens towards her children.
"After fleeing to Abyan with great difficulty, I only managed to find a shelter made of tree branches to live in. We lack the basics of daily life - no food, clean water or clothes. I don’t even have blankets to cover my children in winter but use cartons instead to cover ourselves, particularly during the frosty winter," says Nada, 43, a displaced widow from Al-Hudaydah, mother of three, struggles to secure daily essentials for her children.
Nada has been good at sewing since she was a child. "My mother taught me when I was a little girl and kept telling me that it is a useful skill that I will need one day," she states, “I never imagined this skill to be so important one day in helping me secure the income I would need.”
Nada's work in sewing helped her earn a simple income that helps her to put food on the table for her family. "My business is simple and of a low income, but it helps to sustain a life. I also work on selling clothes on credit to the locals around.”
Despite all this effort, Nada was unable to provide a decent life for her children. "I remember my life prior the displacement with my husband and children in our simple but nice home. We used to live happily, safely and with dignity, but now I feel lost and always dream of returning to my previous life in my village."
