If there is no hashtag, did it really happen? In the age of social media and the 24-hour availability of news, this question has become a mantra for many. What we consume via the screen, the internet or the radio becomes our reality. Things we don't hear about don't exist for us. Unfortunately, this also applies to human suffering all over the world.
There are global crises: War in Ukraine, economic crises, high inflation rates and energy costs. The effects of climate change have also long been felt: intense heatwaves, droughts and forest fires are its consequences. This is making life more difficult for many people around the world. Interrupted supply chains and a lack of wheat and fertiliser deliveries mean even more hunger and poverty for millions of people. It is often a fight for survival. As with the climate crisis, it hits those regions and people hard who are already among the most vulnerable and at risk.
Against this global backdrop, the eighth edition of "Breaking the Silence" sheds light on the humanitarian crises that receive the least coverage worldwide. The report is a call to the global community to help people who receive little attention, to stand up for them and make their voices heard: #BreakingTheSilence
